August Surprises!

After a fairly quiet June, between late-July and mid-August, I suddenly found myself with 12 auditions in 15 days! I have never had that many auditions in so short a time and it truly was like Audition Bootcamp! Ten of the auditions were self-tape and two were in person. What an unexpected surprise. I think, in large part, the volume of auditions is due to my new headshots. They really capture me and are the best headshots I’ve ever had. They were taken by the multi-talented actor/director/writer/photographer DEANNA RASCHELL here in Atlanta. There literally is nothing she can’t do!

And talk about unexpected surprises, on Thursday, August 15th at 9am, I was contacted by the casting director for the tv show SNAPPED. It shoots in Knoxville, TN, and the actress booked to do the episode they were working on had suddenly dropped out. They were desperate and needed to replace her ASAP. (Since I had worked for the CD last year on a different series, she knew my work.) Forty-five minutes later, I was on my way. Three hours after that, I was on set. It was such a fun day with a great cast and crew. I loved working with director DEBORAH MITCHELL and hope I get the chance again down the road. She knew exactly what she needed, and we not only got everything they wanted to shoot that day, we wrapped a little early. So nice to have the 2nd AD tell me they were sure they were going to lose the day, and so grateful that I made it. They put me up in a nice hotel and the next day was equally successful and fun. The series is shot MOS (without sound), so it is much easier to get what they need visually and move on.

We wrapped early the second day too, and since the room was mine until Saturday a.m., I decided to stay overnight and drive home in the morning. I was in the hotel for less than five minutes, when I got word from my agent that one of the in-person auditions resulted in a booking! I was cast in a commercial for BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ALABAMA that would shoot four days later in a small town north of Philadephia. As I write this, I am awaiting word from production about the details, but they are flying me out on Wednesday, August 21st, arranging a rental car and hotel, and flying me home on Friday, the 23rd.

The life of the actor – you can have absolutely NOTHING going on for months and then book two jobs in two days! Crazy, but I LOVE it!
