The Virus Rages On
Here we are, four months later, and tragically the pandemic rages with almost 6 millions cases in the US alone. Too many Americans still refuse to accept reality, and yesterday a poll showed 57% of Republicans find 176,000 dead Americans acceptable. Today, the number is 178,000 dead. I wonder what number will finally be unacceptable.
Although some production has returned in Atlanta, the majority of tv shows, films, and theater productions remain shut down. I have turned down a few auditions because until this virus is genuinely under control, and/or there is a reliable and safe vaccine, David and I will continue to shelter at home. We know a few people who have had the virus and fortunately survived. But it was brutal with terrible lingering symptoms.
We did have something positive and exciting happen recently. I am about to be a published writer for the first time in my life! David had been approached to write three short stories for a series of books entitled, OUTSIDE IN. They are books for fans of various tv shows, old and new. Essentially, they are out-of-the-box reviews disguised as short stories.
The publisher/editor ROBERT SMITH assigned David an episode of the 90's LANCE HENRIKSEN show MILLENIUM, and then asked if he knew any other writers that might be interested in doing one. David recommended a few media tie-in writers and then suggested me. Although I've written quite a bit over the years, I've never been published. Robert agreed to give me a shot.
I wrote my MILLENIUM piece, turned it in, and Robert liked it so much, he offered me two more! David and I then each wrote short story 'critiques' for episodes of the shows TWIN PEAKS and STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. I'm especially happy about my DS9 short story because it is on the BADDA-BING BADDA-BANG episode starring JAMES DARREN, and is one of my all-time favorites.
So, the first time I am being published will be alongside my husband in the same three books. We are thrilled!
David and I hope you are also able to find some joy during these stressful times.
Please be careful out there. Stay safe and healthy!
