2016: One Heartbreak after Another

Today the world lost the incredibly talented CARRIE FISHER. She was a unique voice that will be missed by so many.

My CARRIE FISHER story:

A couple of years ago, David and I went to see WISHFUL DRINKING at the Geffen. A woman, reeking of cheap perfume, sat down in front of us and I started wheezing. We politely asked to move our seats and we assumed we’d be put in seats a few rows behind us. Instead, the staff put us in the front row.

When Carrie got to the part about her time on STAR WARS, she talked about how George Lucas told her that bras somehow no longer existed in the future.... she then asked the audience to guess what they used instead. People called out all kinds of things, but none of them were right. I turned to David and quietly said, “Gaffer's tape,” just as Carrie happened to look right at me. She immediately came to the edge of the stage, right in front of me, and demanded to know how I knew that, who I was, etc., etc. The more she riffed, the more the audience laughed.

As the show went on, whenever she mentioned anything racy, about drugs, or drinking, she’d point to me and say, “Right? I know YOU know what I’m talking about!”

David refers to that as the night I became part of Carrie Fisher's show. I loved it - and her.
