Busy, Busy February Already!
After many, many years, I reconnected with wonderful friend/writer/director/acting-coach-extraordinaire, KIMBERLY JENTZEN. Kimberly is one of the most beloved acting teachers in Los Angeles. During our catch-up lunch a couple of weeks ago, Kimberly invited me to become a part of her production team for TIME CATCHER, a wonderful new short she wrote and will be directing. I immediately said, yes!
Since then, life has really accelerated for me. This past weekend (yes, Super Bowl Sunday!), I spent a total of 13 hours being a Reader for two casting sessions. It was like an Acting Intensive as I got to ‘play’ everything from a young southern boy, a young southern girl, a cowboy, sheriff, and madame of a whorehouse. I loved every second!
Yesterday, we had another casting session, primarily for her students, that I organized and helped run. That was a first for me and my respect and admiration for Casting Directors grew ten-fold! That ain’t an easy job, folks.
Yesterday, I also auditioned for a Cal Arts thesis film that deals with a complex young lesbian and the issues she’s facing. If cast, I will be her Mormon mother. I'm in the running for it and will find out soon.
I’m still working on my one-woman show, trying to memorize several pages so I can present it at the Actor’s Workshop next Monday night at THEATRE WEST. I’ll also be one of the house managers for the next TW mainstage called VERDIGRIS. It’s a revival of a play that was originally presented at TW 20+ years ago.
Unfortunately, with all I have going on, there aren’t enough hours in a day to do it all and I have to go on Hula-Hiatus. :-( I’m going to try to keep up with the dances so I can hop back in in time for the Ho‘ike (show) in May. But for now, my full focus has to be on my acting career and that’s a good thing. :-)
